The Taking Of America 1 2 3

THE GIFT OF CULTURAL DIVERSITY IS FOR PEOPLE NOT CORPORATIONS.

We have all heard a story that begins like this: “When they came for the Jews, I stood silent, When they came for the Gypsy’s, I said nothing, Now their coming for me; who will stand up for me?”

In very few words this historical reminder of Germany’s greatest failure, reminds us of a similar experience and one of the reasons our founding fathers formed America. Our nation was to be a cohesive nation made strong, not weak, by our differences! We would respect the minorities and treat them as equals. We chose to do this for selfish reasons as well as idealistic ones. One of these selfish being our own protection, as the German story reminds us. Of course we, in our great experiment with democracy, have learned of many more reasons to be diverse.

In the poem, “I hear America Singing,” by Walt Whitman, we discover some of the magic that professional diversity affords us. Each industrious worker is seen doing his job. As Americans we should remember the different nations that joined us each bringing their unique skill. This is the key to our longevity and what has made us greater than any other nation on Earth!

Since I was a little kid, I heard stories of the Mohawks who helped build skyscrapers. In 1886, a Canadian company, building a bridge over the St. Lawrence river discovered the Mohawk’s fearless nature, when they hired them to help build the bridge. The Mohawks climbed steel like it was second nature. When a span collapsed killing 30 of their tribesmen, they came in greater numbers seeing it as a challenge not a failure.

About half of the 19th century Italian immigrants were laborers, compared to 1/3 of the Irish and Germans. Contracted out by professional labor brokers known as “Padrones” they dug tunnels, built bridges, laid tracks and helped build skyscrapers. In Chicago over 90% of the steel workers were Italians.

Each nation brought its skills and the blessings of its unique gene pool and culture. The Jews became lawyers, doctors and business owners. The Irish made our cities safe as, policemen, firemen and other city workers. The list goes on and on…

But back to the story of “When they came for the Jews…” President Eisenhower warned us to beware of the “Military Industrial Complex.” He was warning us of the dangerous political influence that corporate America had discovered was within its grasp. He was warning us that we needed to stay true to our principles by keeping the values of our founding fathers, our Judeo-Christian values.

Now nearly a quarter of a century back, corporate America was noting that it could not balance its books, when it kept its contractual obligations to its employees. For example, GM had promised to be the healthcare “god” to its workers and this expenditure was now causing them to pass along too much of this financial burden to car buyers. Many corporations were guilty of this as well, as in promising retirement plans they could not afford later. Our Government was one of the very worst of those in promising both to its employees and then passing along this unearned expense to taxpayers.

In the Clinton era, an unholy alliance was forming. Corporate money for elections, if you take the burden off the corporate books and put it on the taxpayers! Hillary could now smell election victory as the first female president; all she needed was healthcare reform.

Government should be about doing the right thing for the people but, it has become about getting re-elected and serving whatever master has the most money. This it turns out, is the corporate alliance that Ike warned us about. As a result, the medical profession, then made of loosely knit organizations of individual entrepreneurs became their target. The real issues of health care reform and efficiency were never tackled because it dealt with death and dying. Death and dying means dealing with religious values as well as philosophical ones, which are hard to face and too easy to skirt. A huge majority of healthcare expenses comes from what we call “heroic” efforts to keep the sick, dying, very old alive. This effort often ends in their suffering a degrading death at the hands of too many technicians and doctors. Witness to this is in the form of the ever growing number of Living Wills, Do Not Resuscitate Agreements and Health Care Proxys.

The doctors of America were the ideal target for corporate savings; they were small business owners and had no unions to defend them.. Over the next quarter century doctors were then bled into bankruptcy. As a result, individual doctors, practicing privately, are now a rarity. Doctor’s incomes have dropped so significantly, thanks to corporate run managed care, that the majority of doctors are part time mom’s or foreigners from impoverished nations such as India (not to say the Indians are not excellent doctors).

In every song we need a refrain that repeats, so here it comes again. “When they came for the Jews…” Are you beginning to see that pattern of history?

The corporations next discovered that they could make more money if they hired foreigners from third world nations and yet still claimed to be American companies. They claimed to be American companies to keep all the benefits of your paying for their defense with your life should they be threatened. Of course your life would not matter as they fired you and hired the workers overseas. Oh yes, they would bribe you with the short sighted benefit of low cost Chinese products,  until your bank account ran out. Soon you and your neighbors lost their jobs and were forced into low paying service jobs at Home Depot or Walmart to sell the foreign products that were putting you out of work.

More recently the government has decided that the taxpayers should pay for corporate failures by being obligated to pay for corporate financial losses and fraud.

Lets try the refrain again with a little update, “When they came for the Doctors, I stood silent, When they came for the blue collar workers, I said nothing, Now they are coming for me; who will stand up for me?”

When you laugh at the disorganized rag tag protestors of “Wall Street.” Remember you are part of America and their concerns are in many ways yours. If you are an aging Hippy or a proud Viet Nam era vet note that you are not dead yet. America is not dead yet. America gains its power from diversity not homogeneity. Before they take America, take it back! Overcome the illusions of disagreement and remember that we are all in this together and for Each Other. Corporations and Governments are soul-less institutions that have taken over the rights of God’s children.  Trump promised to bring business back to America to employ Americans and he promised to keep the influence of government for the people, by the people and of the people (not corporate bribes to congressmen).  Let’s see that Trump keeps his promises and not let the media divide Americans.

I believe our founding fathers would organize against the corporatocracy that has taken over America, what about you?  Hold Trump to his promises and stay united for all.

Dutch Researcher Created A Super-Influenza Virus With The Potential To Kill Millions

Virus research and the new tools of science allow the creation of the equivalent of Pandora’s Box. Once we release new life forms into the environment it is forever! Is this good or bad?

pandoras_box-google-for-reuse

  • We put up fences and got rustlers.
  • We created banks and got bank robbers.
  • We created computers networks and got computer viruses.
  • We created genetic manipulation and we could  get new killer bugs.

The question is should we as a world full of people allow any corporation or nation to modify living organisms that can never be removed from our environment, as in Pandora’s Box?  Can we even stop this if we wanted to?  One argument for genetic manipulation is that  knowing what can be done by allowing it,  we can be prepared.  Another argument to consider  the question “do the people who make the anti-virus for out computers help make the virus?”  Surely evil people will realized that if they create the disaster they can sell you disaster insurance,  the Mafia is living proof.

An Inspiration For Living Lonely Moments In Paradise!

When the plane landed in Fort Lauderdale Florida, the pilot announced “Welcome To fishing-518775_640Paradise!”  I was excited about the pilot’s vision, which seemed at first to be mine; but, concerned about what I was running away from,  what I was losing and how empty it might feel to be without contact with everyone I had known for so long!

I had sold my practice, my home, and nearly everything I owned to move to Florida. I had given up a handful of treasured friendships, a huge number of fun acquaintances and over 12,000 patients, many of whom I knew by name and personal history for nearly 40 years.

I flashed on visions of the forest of friendships I had just willfully been transplanted away from. bamboo-142635_640For moments these thoughts made me imagine images of being a space traveler marooned on a distant, beautiful but alien unpopulated planet, perhaps Mars.

As we drove to our new home using a navigator to guide us along unfamiliar roads,  I thought that I felt for moments like the character in the story “The Martian” must have felt. Had he felt lost, lonely and wondering what tomorrow would be like as I did now? There was a big difference, of course,  from the situation of that of “The Martian” in that we were surrounded by people and a safe environment but what about my soul’s environment?   Like the Martian I had lost all that makes living life meaningful such as the relationships, trust, respect and common history. I had lost what had grown up over many years as a forest of “friendships” with different degrees of nomenclature like casual, personal or family.  More than that I had given up my relationship with my community, my practice of Holistic Eye Care, something I had invented, nurtured and grown into a giant tree.  One so strong that it had survived the financial  storms of 3 major recessions over nearly half a century.

It made me wonder what forces had created such momentum that I had been willing to leave the beautiful creation of a lifetime that had for some reason now become toxic? Something I occasionally viewed as a wasteland of destruction. oradour-sur-glane-1635802_640There was a lot to think about.  There is also no simple answer.  Some have tried such as the book “Who Stole My Cheese?”  But I was not looking for a description of change I was looking for socio-economic forces that had reshaped and redefined my world. Seven months later I think I have found it. I am a sci-fi writer because I am always searching for answers to question such as:  what is it that creates or destroys civilizations?  Why destruction and creation are so intimately intertwined? And finally does it have to be so? My own experience was now helping better define these questions and paint images of possible answers.

I think that the catalyst of the torrentuous socio-economic forces, that I had experienced so recently, might be described as the loss of responsibility and connection between the people that hand-1917895_640make up a civilization.  I thought back on 40 years ago, when I first moved to Brewster in upstate NY, where my office had been.  I recalled a farmer who had walked 3 miles to my office for his eye exam because he said, “It did not warrant starting his truck just to drive 3 miles.”  Times were different then. It was not that he walked so far so casually and so unpressured by time, that was just a description of what had changed since then. That was just a flavor of the essence of the ethos of that era that you could easily taste.  What was so different was that this farmer would soon know me by name as he did hundreds of the other people whose lives he touched every day!  Keep in mind the phrase “whose lives he touched.

40 years ago as I started my practice, I became enamored with the people  I served quite quickly. Apparently they with me too.  Six months after opening my doors to what I expected to be a weekend, part time practice, I was working full time.  I had to give up my other two part time offices. The force that made this change was the large families of  Irish and Italian heritage Americans who were soon to become my extended family.  They got to know me personally, like me and trust me. With that relationship, the whole family had to come see me and eventually most of the town.  We were all in this life together!

What changed 40 years later to make me move and give it all up for a promise of paradise but a loss of family?  In my opinion, the essential force is the loss of connection between people and the loss of responsibility for your actions or inactions.  From the viewpoint of my profession,  we saw the destruction of the doctor patient relationship created by the third party payors.  When people came to me 40 years ago, the service was thorough, affordable and easily paid for in cash.  When I left, the service was more mechanized, far less personal and no longer affordable in cash.  In fact is is the biggest disaster of American health care history.

I believe in the system of free enterprise and capitalism (with some caveats).  It has certainly worked for me for a long time. I believe that the strength of any economy is small business and entrepreneurship. Why?   Because I believe that it is the knowing of your outsource-1345109_640clients and responsibility to your community that keeps you on the straight and narrow path.  The path that for many American’s is defined on Sunday Mornings under the multicolored shafts of light falling through stained glass windows. Take away this connection and it is easy for Chinese factory owners to adulterate milk or put dangerous materials in sheet rock.  It is easy for Monsanto to create toxic herbicide that will likely soon be proven to have caused cancer in millions of people while rationalizing that they are the Horn Of Plenty that feeds civilization.  It is easy for congressmen to take millions of dollars of bribes while the Wall Street rich devour the lifeblood of America’s workers with carnivorous creations called derivatives (otherwise known as gambling).

Where there is no personal responsibility, there is no community. There is nothing to lose but the smell of fresh minted money and what temporary pleasures it might buy.  IBM, in some ways started this revolution and they became named for it.  IBM stood for “I’ve Been Moved” as in from my family, my home and my community for money’s promise.  We were willing to give up what makes life meaningful for the casino of promises that were  never fulfilled.

Somehow there has to be a way of connecting people to people and make business, its owners and its workers intimately responsible to the communities of people they serve. We must recognize that each of us holds the lives for our country’s citizens in each others hands. Not because it was so warm and fuzzy to be in the community I helped grow with me 40 years ago (though that is a good enough reason) but because otherwise the landscape of vitamins-2002561_640life becomes so toxic that the best of us will leave.  The vast majority of us do not work for money, we work for personal satisfaction, respect and a feeling of self worth, personal value. The majority of employees leave a job not because of money but because they are not treated with respect, listened to and praised for their achievement.

My experience, is that with the creation of self respect by serving a community of people we know, enough money always follows. You also get to share the wealth around if you don’t live in fear of a lack of money to cover expected personal economic crisis.  America has proven this for over 200 years.  “Too big to fail” is not an option, it is a symptom of the bribery and corruption of our government (mostly our representatives) on all levels that allows for a lack of responsibility.   It is enough to make a person run away from their home and seek a new start almost anywhere else. It is something to write about, for me.

I believe in what Walt Disney said years ago, “It is better to entertain with the hopes of educating, then educating with the hopes of entertaining.”   This is my dream and what I hope to inspire in others I get to form a community with.

Ubuntu – A Computer Operating System / An Approach To World Peace!

What is Ubuntu?

Ubuntu is a free computer operating system and a philosophy of human kindness and cooperation.  It has produced a miracle in both areas that is worth understanding.   It has the potential to help establish world peace as a model for human cooperation.  Read this article and learn why!

Ubuntu as a Free Computer operating system (OS):   Only 40 paid programmers work for Canonical Ltd., which is responsible for coordinating thousands  of volunteer programmers and developers from around the world who create and maintain Ubuntu.  Ubuntu is an operating system, like windows, but many consider it far better.  Unlike Windows it is Free and most of the software you would ever need to install on it is Also Free!  For 99% of my work, I have not used windows in years; I use Ubuntu!  Just like your smartphone can download thousands of free apps for Ubuntu. Consider a few that I use that are totally free (but the equivalent for windows might cost thousands of dollars):

  • Audacity – a full music / sound recording editing studio on your desktop
  • GIMP – An image manipulation program that lets you create and modify pictures like Photoshop
  • Browsers: Chrome, Opera or FireFox and many others
  • Libreoffice – An office suite much like Microsoft Office but completely free
  • Rhythmbox – an excellent music organizer and player
  • BackUps –  With BackUps you can copy your current computer’s music, images, programs and settings and in Re-Create it on ANY NEW COMPUTER effortlessly!
  • Here are six things that Ubuntu does better than windows

How is it possible that thousands of brilliant programmers worldwide donate their time, skills and knowledge for free for you?

Ubuntu is sponsored by the UK-based company Canonical Ltd., owned by South African entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth. Canonical generates revenue by selling technical support and services related to Ubuntu, while the operating system itself is entirely free of charge. The Ubuntu project is entirely committed to the principles of free software development; people are encouraged to use free software, improve it, and pass it on (its code is available so anyone can modify and improve it and share it anew)!   In other words,  other than a small financially self sustaining leadership group, Canonical,  Ubuntu is a miracle of human cooperation by thousands of gifted people across the world who work as a team to improve the quality of human life for all of us!

Pictured here to the right of this text  is some of the team at a gathering for volunteer developers.

Ubuntu as a way of life — Archbishop Desmond Tutu offered a definition of Ubuntu in a 1999 book:  A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, based from a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.

Tutu further explained Ubuntu in 2008:

One of the sayings in our country is Ubuntu is the essence of being human. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can’t exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our interconnectedness. You can’t be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality – Ubuntu – you are known for your generosity. We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole World. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity. The philosophy of Ubuntu has influenced many world wide.  For example: The Peace Project,   The Peace Education Project and there is more to come.

Human Cooperation

As human beings, the Judeo-Christian bible reminds us that we struggle with two forces.  One is the physical desire to selfishly seek wealth and power that does not create value for society (such as might come from rebuilding a city or creating jobs) while the other side is the more spiritual side that recognizes the Creator’s plan for all of humanity to live in harmony and peace.   From the Judeo-Christian viewpoint we recognize Abraham as the near “perfect man” who taught us how to live in harmony by example of the way he lived.  Ubuntu like Abraham, does not deny the accumulation of wealth and power as long as it is used for the betterment of all.  Could we ever achieve that goal?  The stories of Ubuntu, as shared above, hint at this possibility.
It is always difficult to educate people while keeping them awake. Years of college has attuned me timelesssearchto identifying people who are sitting upright in chairs with open eyes and still in deep sleep.

It is far better to entertain, as Walt Disney said, with the hopes of educating then to educate with the hope of entertaining.  Much of my Sci-fi,  Sci-fantasy writings deal with questions of the potential for people living by the principles of Ubuntu. I explore, through adventure and imagination, what could happen if we learn to live in harmony (Ubuntu) and if not. I am constantly reminded as I write of the potential for human harmony as all my writing, research, social communication etc is done with the reliable results of the people who believe in Ubuntu, on an Ubuntu powered computer.

The Attack Against American Boundaries And Values By The Media!

gender-maniaNational Geographic just published a front page article this week honoring a nine-year-old boy who “feels”  he is a girl and as a result chooses to dress like one,  act like one and claim he is one (a girl that is). Therefore National Geographic implies in this article that he should be accepted as one. Can Nat Geo deny this when scrawled accross the page is the statment “Gender Revolution?”

According to the implications of Nat Geo’s article this transvestite child is a model of a universal truth we mindless average Americans are missing.  The truth being whatever Nat Geo and other extreme Hollywood dementia types are sharing at the moment. How can they claim this? Easy, because there is no God, there are no values, and everything is morally relative, as overpaid pathetic liberal professors now teach your children in college.

It appears to me, from their article, that they are telling us that just like Bruce Jenner, who claims “I am the new normal,” this child, a nine-year-old named Avery, is the new normal.  We average Americans on the other hand  are mentally unable to grasp that fact; but, they have hopes that we will learn from Nat Geo and their generous and patient education program beginning with this “revolutionary” publication.

The attack against Judeo-Christian American Boundaries And Values goes on and on! Just remember when you say “we should all love and accept this transvestite”  that it may be Christian to love all but not mandatory to accept all.  Just as liberal extremists gave their children awards for showing up and not achievement,  giving awards for sexual identity confusion makes no sense and that is what this article is about!

uncle-samSomewhere in this confusing world we must have common boundaries and values as Americans or we are meaningless as a people.  The attack on Judeo-Christian values is growing by the moment. Maybe we should not just let California seceded from the union but vote to expel them from the Union (or at least Hollywood and its sympathizers).

I for one (and with a HUGE majority of Americans) believe that women are beautiful and special.
I don’t want that boundary, that distinction,  that beauty, destroyed by people who think that pink worn by women is forced mind control!

What does Nat Geo have to say about this? “Surely we can support kids to be whoever they want to be and dress however they like without further reinforcing sexist stereotypes…”

demandpunishmentforthugswhocutdogsearsoffandposedforphotos46421No Meghan Murphy and the rest of you pathetics at Nat Geo, we do not have to support everything or anything YOU think is Okay.

I saw a proud selfie photo of two young Turkish boys holding bloody dog’s ears they had just cut off. The suffering animal sat chained below.

Surely you can support kids whoever they want to be….. invite these young people to stay at your home…don’t lock the silverware drawer and sleep well!

Meghan Murphy, the author of this article, “The Gender Revolution” therefore ends her great lesson to us ignorant -value prone conservatives by telling us that we are hurting children by expressing —-

S E X I S T     S T E R E O T Y P E S !

beauty-girl-google-labled4reuseYes expecting a women to look and dress female and a man to look and dress male is a Sexist Stereotype, according to Nat Geo and Meghan. Tell this to Avon, Revlon, Mary Kay,  Maybelline, Maybelline, Estée lauder, CoverGirl, Clinique, Elizabeth Arden …..   Oddly enough they have been marketing for and singing the praises of Female Beauty, clothing and style for a very long time!  Are they all guilty of Sexist Stereotyping?  Are the designers such as Coco Chanel, Donna Karan, Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, Donatella Versace, Ralph Lauren, Christian Dior, Pierre Cardin and others, who design great female fashions, Sexist Stereotyping too?

I love my friends who may be gay or lesbian, it is my choice. I love them for who they are, how they act towards me and others in our community, what they care about, our common values!   However, I do not have to accept their sexual values as mine nor praise those values any more then they have to love my propensity for cayenne pepper in food! Despite differences, I would defend them with my life if anyone should attack them! They are Americans and we all live and stand together or die together. Nevertheless, America started with values, has values, wants values and your telling us that if we don’t change we are sexist bigots is nothing but bullshit.  People come to America because of who we are not who you want to remake us into! We have our values, we have our tolerance to differences and we have our pride in this achievement, but we did not ask you or anyone else to rewrite our history. We don’t need revolution after revolution after revolution to make the desires of everyone’s unique psychological issues something to march for!  Some of us do believe in God and ultimate values. Those who don’t, atheists who believe in moral relativity (your apparent values)  have killed more people in the world than all the “religious wars” in history.

People are not just men, women or gay.  People are complex creatures that only God can comprehend.  My gay friends are not just “gay.” They are complex people with values, American values, Christian values, ethics, moral values, likes and dislikes which we Americans hold in common; it is what make us a Nation.  We Americans are diverse, we accept differences and yet we have a common heritage that we do not want eroded by degenerate Hollywood “celebrities” whose greatest virtues are seen on every counter in “The Inquirer,” “The Examiner” or “People Magazine. Their frequently published values, how many orgies they can attend or how many marriages they have had and when they will be out of drug rehabilitation are not now and never will be mainstream American values.  If there are no boundaries as you and they seem to see it, then why are they not advocating for Sharia Law?  Oops…. they will be killed by ISIS and the like (I forgot that).

Re-defining America until we have no boundaries is a dangerous goal.  We all have a feeling where our boundaries should be though it is hard at times to express in words. This applies to national boundaries as well as moral boundaries.  It has been expressed for several hundred years, as America. Yes we righted injustices and refined our viewpoints, but we do not choose to change who we are.

If human sexuality is a spectrum and not a dichotomy as nature appears to present it, then YOU should logically accept all those who believe in God as a spectrum and see no dichotomies or boundaries. With that in mind you should accept as refugees any and all Islamic people who come from ISIS controlled territory without vetting!  To not do so would be akin to being sexist; it’s Islamophobic!

Nat Geo, volunteer your homes to all the unvetted islamics now!  Why judge them, it’s the Islamic Revolution, support it!

Let’s see how well that goes over…………..Nat Geo!

7 Foods Experts Won’t Eat

1. GMO FOODS (Any of them)

The Expert: Jeffrey Smith, author of Seeds of Deception and founder of Institute for Responsible Technology

The Situation: GMO foods encourage the massive spraying of herbicides on our topsoils, polluting the ground, waterways, animals and humans. Scientific studies have shown the RoundUp Ready genes in GMO foods to transfer to our intestinal flora and the pesticide producing genes, called Bt-toxins, to be present in both unborn fetuses and their mothers. In short, GMO foods pollute our environment and our bodies. No long term health studies of GMO foods have been performed on humans. In addition to polluting our bodies with mutant DNA, eating RoundUp Ready GMO foods insures a hefty dose of herbicide given that GMO crops are even more heavily sprayed than conventional non-organic crops. The environmental, political, economic, and social damage by GMO foods is staggering. GMO foods include corn, soybeans, sugar beets, potatoes, alfalfa, canola, potato, papaya, rice, honey, squash, rapeseed, tomatoes, sweet corn, tobacco, peas, and more.

The Solution: Check that all the food you purchase is non-GMO. Demand a halt to GMO foods any chance you get. Support mandatory labeling of GMO foods. Buy ORGANIC. Plant a garden

For further insights and details on the disastrous company Monsanto ( the leading company of GMO seeds), please click here.     GMO Foods written by WuW contributing writer Jack Adam Weber of PoeticHealing.com

2. CANNED TOMATOES

The Expert: Fredrick vom Saal, PhD, an endocrinologist at the University of Missouri who studies bisphenol-A.

The Situation: The resin linings of tin cans contain bisphenol-A, a synthetic estrogen that has been linked to ailments ranging from reproductive problems to heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. Unfortunately, acidity (a prominent characteristic of tomatoes) causes BPA to leach into your food. Studies show that the BPA in most people’s body exceeds the amount that suppresses sperm production or causes chromosomal damage to the eggs of animals. “You can get 50 mcg of BPA per liter out of a tomato can, and that’s a level that is going to impact people, particularly the young,” says vom Saal. “I won’t go near canned tomatoes.”

The Solution: Choose tomatoes in glass bottles (which do not need resin linings), such as the brands Bionaturae and Coluccio. You can also get several types in Tetra Pak boxes, like Trader Joe’s and Pomi.

 3. CORN-FED BEEF

The Expert: Joel Salatin, co-owner of Polyface Farms and author of half a dozen books on sustainable farming.

The Situation: Cattle evolved to eat grass, not grains. But farmers today feed their animals corn and soybeans, which fatten up the animals faster for slaughter. More money for cattle farmers (and lower prices at the grocery store) means a lot less nutrition for us. A recent comprehensive study conducted by the USDA and researchers from Clemson University found that compared with corn-fed beef, grass-fed beef is higher in beta-carotene, vitamin E, omega-3s, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), calcium, magnesium, and potassium; lower in inflammatory omega-6s; and lower in saturated fats that have been linked to heart disease. “We need to respect the fact that cows are herbivores, and that does not mean feeding them corn and chicken manure,” says Salatin.

The Solution: Buy grass-fed beef, which can be found at specialty grocers, farmers’ markets, and nationally at Whole Foods. It’s usually labeled because it demands a premium, but if you don’t see it, ask your butcher.

 4. MICROWAVE POPCORN

The Expert: Olga Naidenko, PhD, a senior scientist for the Environmental Working Group.

The Situation: Chemicals, including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), in the lining of the bag, are part of a class of compounds that may be linked to infertility in humans, according to a recent study from UCLA. In animal testing, the chemicals cause liver, testicular, and pancreatic cancer. Studies show that microwaving causes the chemicals to vaporize—and migrate into your popcorn. “They stay in your body for years and accumulate there,” says Naidenko, which is why researchers worry that levels in humans could approach the amounts causing cancers in laboratory animals. DuPont and other manufacturers have promised to phase out PFOA by 2015 under a voluntary EPA plan, but millions of bags of popcorn will be sold between now and then.

The Solution: Pop natural kernels the old-fashioned way: in a skillet. For flavorings, you can add real butter or dried seasonings, such as dillweed, vegetable flakes, or soup mix.

5. FARMED SALMON

The Expert: David Carpenter, MD, director of the Institute for Health and the Environment at the University at Albany and publisher of a major study in the journal Science on contamination in fish.

The Situation: Nature didn’t intend for salmon to be crammed into pens and fed soy, poultry litter, and hydrolyzed chicken feathers. As a result, farmed salmon is lower in vitamin D and higher in contaminants, including carcinogens, PCBs, brominated flame retardants, and pesticides such as dioxin and DDT. According to Carpenter, the most contaminated fish come from Northern Europe, which can be found on American menus. “You can only safely eat one of these salmon dinners every 5 months without increasing your risk of cancer,” says Carpenter, whose 2004 fish contamination study got broad media attention. “It’s that bad.” Preliminary science has also linked DDT to diabetes and obesity, but some nutritionists believe the benefits of omega-3s outweigh the risks. There is also concern about the high level of antibiotics and pesticides used to treat these fish. When you eat farmed salmon, you get dosed with the same drugs and chemicals.

The Solution: Switch to wild-caught Alaska salmon. If the package says fresh Atlantic, it’s farmed. There are no commercial fisheries left for wild Atlantic salmon.

6. MILK PRODUCED WITH ARTIFICIAL HORMONES

The Expert: Rick North, project director of the Campaign for Safe Food at the Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility and former CEO of the Oregon division of the American Cancer Society.

The Situation: Milk producers treat their dairy cattle with recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH or rBST, as it is also known) to boost milk production. But rBGH also increases udder infections and even pus in the milk. It also leads to higher levels of a hormone called insulin-like growth factor in milk. In people, high levels of IGF-1 may contribute to breast, prostate, and colon cancers. “When the government approved rBGH, it was thought that IGF-1 from milk would be broken down in the human digestive tract,” says North. As it turns out, the casein in milk protects most of it, according to several independent studies. “There’s not 100% proof that this is increasing cancer in humans,” admits North. “However, it’s banned in most industrialized countries.”

The Solution: Check labels for rBGH-free, rBST-free, produced without artificial hormones, or organic milk. These phrases indicate rBGH-free products.

7. CONVENTIONAL APPLES

The Expert: Mark Kastel, former executive for agribusiness and co-director of the Cornucopia Institute, a farm-policy research group that supports organic foods

The Situation: If fall fruits held a “most doused in pesticides contest,” apples would win. Why? They are individually grafted (descended from a single tree) so that each variety maintains its distinctive flavor. As such, apples don’t develop resistance to pests and are sprayed frequently. The industry maintains that these residues are not harmful. But Kastel counters that it’s just common sense to minimize exposure by avoiding the most doused produce, like apples. “Farm workers have higher rates of many cancers,” he says. And increasing numbers of studies are starting to link a higher body burden of pesticides (from all sources) with Parkinson’s disease.

The Solution: Buy organic apples. If you can’t afford organic, be sure to wash and peel them first.

Defund Hollywood! (and the U.N.)

Rosie O’donnel, an Elitist celebrity egotists who thinks you and I are drooling idiots continues to use the spotlight of Hollywood to try to overthrow American free choice and American values (none of which she could ever represent).

Elitist Rosie O’Donnel

This elitist snob who considers the voice of middle America and those Americans who have suffered financial ruin for the last 20 years,  meaningless drivel!

She does so by using her wealth and access to media to call for martial law to prevent Trumps inauguration!  Its another way of saying this to America.   “Middle America, American urban slum dwellers,  disenfranchised blue collar workers of Detroit,  you have no value!  You have no meaning!  You have no vote! You have no mind I respect!”

It’s time to DEFUND HOLLYWOOD and all those who have been made absurdly wealthy by the people they have no respect for, you and  I!

Meryl Streep used the money middle America paid at the theater to diss Middle America meryl_streep_google-lable-for-resuseand anyone who is not in her west coast wealthy snob circle.

Meryl knows what we don’t,  she like Rosie is just smarter and wiser than all of us average Americans.

She, Rosie and her colleagues picture you as lying drunk in front of a TV watching sports events and getting fat on beer and pizza.

She doesn’t think that you can think because you are not a hollywood star!

It’s the same situation in the United Nations, where incredibly wealthy Islamic nations have used their financial power to turn the U.N. into an anti-Israeli club to try to  destroy the only true Democracy in the middle east.

This is nothing more than an effort to decrease American power in the

middle east and fulfill Obama and Kerry’s vision of a One World Order. I for one will not let them dismantle America without a fight!

I do not give up the nation my father  fought for in WW II  and its allies like Israel, I will not give our nation to those like George Soros who funds his one world order dream with his huge wealth and overblown ego.

Actors whose greatest skill is being someone other than who they are (in other words a professional liar) do not now nor have they ever represented mainstream American values!  Their wealth keeps them fully out of touch
with what matters to Americans other than on the coast where their vested financial interest ally against the rest of us.

Actors are just another example of the unequal distribution of wealth that has given the power of the media to people who don’t represent us!  We need to tell.them to shut up by
taking away their
financial power.

An Entertainment Tax on Entertainers!

I suggest an entertainment Tax on all actors, shakedown-1340048_640sports…public entertainers on stage or screen of 90%.

I am sure they would  support this knowing that this tax be used to support their favorite charity, the poor and disenfranchised Americans they always publicly cry for when arriving in their personal jets.

Is Virtue A State Of War?

Virtue is a state of war, and to live in it we have always to do combat with ourselves.

— Jean-Jacques Rousseau

There is in  a discussion in Jewish Theology that God creates two types of beings. Each type is exemplified in the biblical histories  of   the brothers yin-and-yang-1947878_1280
Isaac and Ishmael  and Jacob and Esau.  The following is my view of this discussion.

In the first case,  the father, Abraham, had been an idol worshiper in the home of an Idol seller.  Though Abraham broke free of Idol worship it might be understandable that one of his children, who was born to a mother who was a princess from a land of idol worshipers, Haggar,  would have an evil inclination that he must deal with,  Ishmael.

In the second case, Esau is the son of two holy beings,  Isaac and Rebecca. You would not expect here to find a child with evil inclinations, reared in such a holy home.  Yet there must be an explanation for Esau.

A Jewish viewpoint is that each of the holy brothers represents the perfect man on Earth (Isaac and Jacob).  This perfection is inborn and it is expressed in lifestyle.

I believe that these people are seen throughout history  in different forms and they serve to inspire and motivate us to excellence.  However,  should the world be full of them, there would be no reason for it to exist as it would be perfection.  A world full of  good Angels would have  no to reason to exist or strive towards perfection,  it would be perfect. Would we even know this however?  If the world were full of perfection, would it fade from existence much like a the sense of warmth fades in a hot bath as we become aware of no other surrounding (change)?

It then appears that God creates children like Ishmael and Esau for another reason.  This reason is to give mankind a battle to fight,  a battle to fight within each man’s heart.  The evil inclination,  the temptation,  must be overcome and this is expressed in the physical world,  our reality.

A Jewish view of the world is that God created it but left it unfinished.  We were told to leave paradise and labor to create a world more perfect and more deserving of God’s presence.   We are in a way Co-Creators with God.

Could we eliminate the evil being and have a better world? Does one example of creation deserve greater merit?   The evil inclined who overcomes his evil or the perfect one who lives the example?  Both are needed apparently for the purpose of creation.  Both can be of value to society and the perfection of our world. In my exploration of reality, via Janr Ssor’s experiences, I frequently come back upon the mystical teaching that all existence is nothing but energy.  Energy is always a sine wave of positive and negative. With this in mind, it appears that both sides of creation will be with us throughout history.

Make All America Great Again!

libertystatueI hear America singing,” by Walt Whitman,  reminds us of the teamwork of many professions who, free to dream and earn the rewards of their work, made America not only great but possible!

The sovereignty of America’s people, not government, is the living body of our Nation!

Religious freedom for all, is not a restriction, it is the foundation of our ethics!

We build borders that welcome new brothers, but protect our national vision!

Diversity, not homogeneity, is the pillar of our strength!

Positive Thinking, not fear should be our motivation!

To make America “great again” requires keeping these dreams alive, it is not to dream the impossible dream but to live the possible dream, one so big that it draws people to us from every nation, one so big that it seems impossible.

The foundation our civilization is the acceptance of the diversity of those who choose to share our common values and ethics.  Every time we give away a piece of of our values we become more like where  people have come running from not where they want to go to! Compromise never feels just, it is just the way to go. The sovereignty of our people is not a flowing river to divert, it is a castle with walls to be defended!

Attributed to our Lady of the Harbor is the  quote from Emma Lazarus’ sonnet, New Colossus: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” Let’s make America great again, by being the American’s John F. Kennedy inspired, those who landed on the moon nearly 50 years ago.  Lets make it a nation of sovereign people, and take it back from the Corporatocracy,  Eisenhower warned us about!

I doubt any of us was thrilled with Trump or Hillary, but Trump held the molotov cocktails to throw at The Corporatocracy that is dominating America, at the Wall Street, who stole your retirement and paid no penalty and at those who would change our values to please a radical Islam, rather than welcome our Islamic brothers who choose to become Americans.

Make America Great Again, by not giving up our sovereignty!

“Little evil would be done in the world if evil never could be done in the name of good.”

I love this above quote from Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach, but I wonder what the real consequences might be of attempting to enact its words?   I say this because I wonder,  if her eloquent sounding statement actually has any “real meaning”  when we consider the possibly undefinable words it relies upon, “good and evil.”

If  the end of evil, in the name of good,  became a reality, would the basis for many of our best adventure stories vanish like fog in the morning sunrise?   In our most dramatic stories and plays, from ancient times onward, it is essentially the battle between good and evil that occupy center stage, despite the actor’s exuberant strutting and stammering.  Not to say there would not be enough to write about.  Just living, surviving, exploring, advancing society and technology, challenging the limits of our existence, reaching out to the beckoning call of the sea of space, to name just a few………..  would surely be enough to write about.  Just one type of “evil” would vanish, that being the actions of one being or group of beings, against another of opposing opinions or values.

This concept of  the “end of evil in the name of good”  makes me wonder  what is “evil?” How do we define “evil?”  We won’t touch this much right now as it has been debated for centuries and appears clearly unresolved to intellectual thinkers, though perhaps not so to religious ones!  Yet,  Marie, personally,  had no problem with expecting that evil could be defined by someone; If not, her quote makes no sense!

If we step away from living entities performing evil what else is evil?  Is there evil?  One enticing thought that comes from this discussion is can we define death as evil?  Perhaps it is unjust to call death an “evil”  after all, we don’t know what death is because we don’t know what comes after it (at least other than by faith), just before it.  However, this is a whole other subject and likely a floating away from the torrentouous  sea of thoughts that Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach’s words, seem to have set astorm.

But back to Marie. How many times can you look back on history and see that a war was fought in the name of “good,” but that good appears to have been very one sided?  Perhaps that means that one sided good is another name for “evil.”  In fact this appears to make a lot of sense, when you give it some grey cell time. Does that mean that whatever we do as a nation that we declare is “good” has to be seen by all as good to truly be good?

One of the salient issues of our era, at the moment, is Islamic terrorism. Islamic Terrorists claim that they are on the side of  good,  and those whom they are attacking are evil.  The peace-signWest, mostly Christian and Jewish, in its essential values, sees it the other way around (for the most part). We do not often deny that we have made some poor decisions in our effort to “rescue”  other nations from the villainous grips of tyrannical leaders. History is replete with good guys waging war on evil.  We hope history will see us as the good guys. Maybe Marie’s statement is nonfunctional because of its dependencies?  Should we consider perhaps that forceful actions taken in the name of “good” are the issue and not the definition of good? In that case, evil might not be done if warfare was not allowed!

If only we could agree to ban war as a method of “overcoming evil” can you imagine how we might resolve our differences?  We might even be able to throw out trying to define good and evil.  Martin Luther King, amongst other good company, championed the concept of war free conflict (non-violent protest in his case). It does produce results, even without a martyr. Unfortunately the rioting thugs (who like to be misidentified as Afro-Americans, don’t know enough about the great men like Martin Luther King).

Perhaps a potentially better statment (though longer)  than hers might be considered.

  • Little evil would be done in the world if evil never could be done in the name of good”  might become…
  • “little evil would be done in the world if warfare, of any sort,  was not permitted in an effort to replace perceived evil with perceived good.

Warfare is also not so easy to define.  Is economic warfare war?  Is political manipulation and destabilization of nations war?

If we could ban “warfare”  of most types, it could potentially make for a great story. However, considering that the “natural order of our universe” appears to be the  survival of all living creatures who are dependent upon a hierarchy of species dominance and a food chain, it strains credulity.

Somewhere in our universe I know this story is being played out.  Ah…but to witness it in person and learn its secrets!  My exploration of this issue and slowly upcoming story currently labeled “The Carrnegg”  is an attempt to visit this time and place…….  stick around.
