An Inspiration For Living Lonely Moments In Paradise!

When the plane landed in Fort Lauderdale Florida, the pilot announced “Welcome To fishing-518775_640Paradise!”  I was excited about the pilot’s vision, which seemed at first to be mine; but, concerned about what I was running away from,  what I was losing and how empty it might feel to be without contact with everyone I had known for so long!

I had sold my practice, my home, and nearly everything I owned to move to Florida. I had given up a handful of treasured friendships, a huge number of fun acquaintances and over 12,000 patients, many of whom I knew by name and personal history for nearly 40 years.

I flashed on visions of the forest of friendships I had just willfully been transplanted away from. bamboo-142635_640For moments these thoughts made me imagine images of being a space traveler marooned on a distant, beautiful but alien unpopulated planet, perhaps Mars.

As we drove to our new home using a navigator to guide us along unfamiliar roads,  I thought that I felt for moments like the character in the story “The Martian” must have felt. Had he felt lost, lonely and wondering what tomorrow would be like as I did now? There was a big difference, of course,  from the situation of that of “The Martian” in that we were surrounded by people and a safe environment but what about my soul’s environment?   Like the Martian I had lost all that makes living life meaningful such as the relationships, trust, respect and common history. I had lost what had grown up over many years as a forest of “friendships” with different degrees of nomenclature like casual, personal or family.  More than that I had given up my relationship with my community, my practice of Holistic Eye Care, something I had invented, nurtured and grown into a giant tree.  One so strong that it had survived the financial  storms of 3 major recessions over nearly half a century.

It made me wonder what forces had created such momentum that I had been willing to leave the beautiful creation of a lifetime that had for some reason now become toxic? Something I occasionally viewed as a wasteland of destruction. oradour-sur-glane-1635802_640There was a lot to think about.  There is also no simple answer.  Some have tried such as the book “Who Stole My Cheese?”  But I was not looking for a description of change I was looking for socio-economic forces that had reshaped and redefined my world. Seven months later I think I have found it. I am a sci-fi writer because I am always searching for answers to question such as:  what is it that creates or destroys civilizations?  Why destruction and creation are so intimately intertwined? And finally does it have to be so? My own experience was now helping better define these questions and paint images of possible answers.

I think that the catalyst of the torrentuous socio-economic forces, that I had experienced so recently, might be described as the loss of responsibility and connection between the people that hand-1917895_640make up a civilization.  I thought back on 40 years ago, when I first moved to Brewster in upstate NY, where my office had been.  I recalled a farmer who had walked 3 miles to my office for his eye exam because he said, “It did not warrant starting his truck just to drive 3 miles.”  Times were different then. It was not that he walked so far so casually and so unpressured by time, that was just a description of what had changed since then. That was just a flavor of the essence of the ethos of that era that you could easily taste.  What was so different was that this farmer would soon know me by name as he did hundreds of the other people whose lives he touched every day!  Keep in mind the phrase “whose lives he touched.

40 years ago as I started my practice, I became enamored with the people  I served quite quickly. Apparently they with me too.  Six months after opening my doors to what I expected to be a weekend, part time practice, I was working full time.  I had to give up my other two part time offices. The force that made this change was the large families of  Irish and Italian heritage Americans who were soon to become my extended family.  They got to know me personally, like me and trust me. With that relationship, the whole family had to come see me and eventually most of the town.  We were all in this life together!

What changed 40 years later to make me move and give it all up for a promise of paradise but a loss of family?  In my opinion, the essential force is the loss of connection between people and the loss of responsibility for your actions or inactions.  From the viewpoint of my profession,  we saw the destruction of the doctor patient relationship created by the third party payors.  When people came to me 40 years ago, the service was thorough, affordable and easily paid for in cash.  When I left, the service was more mechanized, far less personal and no longer affordable in cash.  In fact is is the biggest disaster of American health care history.

I believe in the system of free enterprise and capitalism (with some caveats).  It has certainly worked for me for a long time. I believe that the strength of any economy is small business and entrepreneurship. Why?   Because I believe that it is the knowing of your outsource-1345109_640clients and responsibility to your community that keeps you on the straight and narrow path.  The path that for many American’s is defined on Sunday Mornings under the multicolored shafts of light falling through stained glass windows. Take away this connection and it is easy for Chinese factory owners to adulterate milk or put dangerous materials in sheet rock.  It is easy for Monsanto to create toxic herbicide that will likely soon be proven to have caused cancer in millions of people while rationalizing that they are the Horn Of Plenty that feeds civilization.  It is easy for congressmen to take millions of dollars of bribes while the Wall Street rich devour the lifeblood of America’s workers with carnivorous creations called derivatives (otherwise known as gambling).

Where there is no personal responsibility, there is no community. There is nothing to lose but the smell of fresh minted money and what temporary pleasures it might buy.  IBM, in some ways started this revolution and they became named for it.  IBM stood for “I’ve Been Moved” as in from my family, my home and my community for money’s promise.  We were willing to give up what makes life meaningful for the casino of promises that were  never fulfilled.

Somehow there has to be a way of connecting people to people and make business, its owners and its workers intimately responsible to the communities of people they serve. We must recognize that each of us holds the lives for our country’s citizens in each others hands. Not because it was so warm and fuzzy to be in the community I helped grow with me 40 years ago (though that is a good enough reason) but because otherwise the landscape of vitamins-2002561_640life becomes so toxic that the best of us will leave.  The vast majority of us do not work for money, we work for personal satisfaction, respect and a feeling of self worth, personal value. The majority of employees leave a job not because of money but because they are not treated with respect, listened to and praised for their achievement.

My experience, is that with the creation of self respect by serving a community of people we know, enough money always follows. You also get to share the wealth around if you don’t live in fear of a lack of money to cover expected personal economic crisis.  America has proven this for over 200 years.  “Too big to fail” is not an option, it is a symptom of the bribery and corruption of our government (mostly our representatives) on all levels that allows for a lack of responsibility.   It is enough to make a person run away from their home and seek a new start almost anywhere else. It is something to write about, for me.

I believe in what Walt Disney said years ago, “It is better to entertain with the hopes of educating, then educating with the hopes of entertaining.”   This is my dream and what I hope to inspire in others I get to form a community with.

Pigs At The Trough

With Corruption In Congress and Evident In Those Who Call Themselves “Presidential Candidates,”  How Big An Affect Would Electing A New Pig  At The Trough Have?

The Short YouTube Video, Power Of Networks,  helps us understand that our votes (or actions) do more than elect one man,  they can change a nation! Political and social
PigsAtTheTrough scientist,  James Fowler and Nicholas Christakas in their book “Connected: The Surprising Power of Our Social Networks and How They Shape Our Lives” explain the dramatic affects relationships have on any and all groups (like our nation).  They explain that we are connected like schools of fish and flocks of birds.  However the friends who live a 100 miles away have just as much affect as the friends who live next door, even if you only meet with them once or twice a year. Even more important is that your friend’s friend’s friends have an influence on you!  This can determine whether you are altruistic, depressed, positive and even obese.

Consider that to find the perfect mate,  you would theoretically have to date 6,000 people.  However,  if each of us knows 20 people and each of those people know 20 people and they each know 20 people,  this network would put us in touch with 8,000 people who are just 3 degrees of separation away from us!  So in a reasonable environment we can find the ideal mate without just throwing dice.

Back to the presidential election.   If each of us with ethics, decent values and courage makes an effort to share those values and concerns with people we know, like and trust (our network),  we have the power to influence the behavior of 8,000 people!   Its not Uncle Sam who needs you,  it is our country who needs you!   Get involved now in writing, speaking,  meeting and sharing your true feelings about the “dirt”  that are running our country.   If YOU do,  over the next 3 months our country will be pregnant with people who want and CAN bring about change that will save our nation from ruin and our children from a life of misery and domination by corporate corruption and foreign powers.

Accountable Care or The Accountants That Took Out Windows To Improve GM Cars?

OBAMACARE /ACCOUNTABLE CARE:  A doctor with years of success and experience told me that “Accountable Care,” the center piece of ObamaCare, is a name created by congressmen who sit live in palatial royalty while their constituents clamor for crumbs! Is that true? The elderly doctor reminded me that theories of healthcare management are nothing but, dreams and hype to sell at election time!  He reminded me to follow the money trail and notice that it paid off those who elected the congressmen, the insurance accountable-care-organizations-lights-cameras-article-3759companies. It did so by putting all the “financial risk” of the experiment on doctors while guarantying the financial rewards to ‘insurance companies.” It was,  he said,  “like legalized gambling in a Casino that rigged the tables.”   It ruined many nights of my sleep because I knew this man and he had credibilty.

CHANGE AS OF 2014: As of the year 2014, a large percentage of ObamaCare is affecting medical practices of all types. The majority of doctors are no longer writing on paper but using EHR (Electronic Health Records).  Tedious, often slow and unreliable for now, it is quickly becoming the legally required standard.  If a doctor doesn’t  use it they will certainly not get paid easily for insurance claims, if at all!  Is this the dreamed of efficiency that saves us money?  Most doctors surveyed said it made their exams 30% slower. They were clearly less efficient!

RUSHING INTO DATA EXCHANGE, THE NEXT PHASE?:   The imagined economy of ObamaCare is an  exchange of data that prevents the current very real duplication of testing that at times exists in medical care.  Not a bad “idea;”  but,  is it likely to work?   Since I am an eye doctor in addition to being a writer, I chose to look at my profession and get a view from my colleagues eyes.  It was not encouraging, at least at this point in time.  Why? It is simple to explain.

EHRs do not contain the full information of complex testing and technology print outs, they currently contain the summaries. So much data of importance is lacking.  On the other hand,  they are bloated with  miles of garbage produced to satisfy the demands of courts and lawyers rather than patient needs!

If a patient has a test that produces many pages of data with images (such as repeat vision fields, which is a tedious and somewhat unreliable test for Glaucoma),  all the pages are almost never stored in EHR records.  Much is stored in the testing machines memory. Furthermore the quality of the  test (as with many tests) may frequently be questioned as the patient may have a bad day,  the technician may have been preoccupied with other issues, and the doctor may have missed something in reading them (they too are human).  If ONE test is the requirement and its detailed pages,  test environment, other related events are not available,  is the currently available “essence” of this whole process all we need to share? Will this create better out comes or more frequent law suits?

There are many other tests used by eye doctors that meet this criteria for failure such as:  OCT (Optical coherence tomography),  HRT (Heidelberg Retina Tomography) all complex imaging tests. Even simpler tests such as: An extended opthalmoscopy,  Biomicroscopy, or Fundus photography! Almost never is the full data store in EHR. As a result, sharing the data between doctors means sharing and duplicating and error becomes highly probable!

ACO AimIn the future as data storage and retrieval becomes more encompassing this significant challenge may be overcome, but for now, rushing into data exchange is only likely to be unreliable and dangerous to doctors and patients!

EXAMPLES FROM A REAL WORLD:  Years ago accountants told GM to take out the operable rear window in their passenger cars and make its opening an “option.” GM mindlessly did this and it cost them a significant bit of their reputation.  Just recently a patient in my office, told me a story of Government Vision and Success!  I was excited to hear this as I felt landing the moon over 40 years ago with no progress of significance since was what I expected of our government.  He told me our congressmen had spent BILLIONS of dollars creating a water treatment plant for NYC.  He told me it would create the best quality water the world had ever seen!  He was enthusiastic about the technology they employed and the excellence his workers had provided in building it.  I was amazed! He then said, “there is one caveat doctor.  After we take this water and make it into the most pristine water the world has ever seen,  it flows out into an open pond on its was to NYC,  where birds shit in it each day.”  Now this is something I can believe comes out of congressmen whose financial liability is nothing like that of private business. They don’t worry about if it works;  but,  they do concern themselves with  who gets paid off!  Does anything work for data exchange?  Sure!  For now if you have the same software in the same facility, yes; with the caveat that you have access to off-line storage in the same machine (that is not on ehr).  So, if you are a hospital or a large medical group, your doctors could exchange some data and get the rest of machines they can access.

What about doctors not in the same group or in a hospital?  Well faxed reports are still viable and work!  When an eye doctor faxes a report to a pcp regarding diabetes or atherosclerosis that information can be incorporated in the PCPs records. This provides better management and better fees as it meets the needs of HEDIS scoring.  It provides better care possibly and in this case the specialist’s input is all the PCP really wants.  Should doctors rush into data exchange software?

Just imagine all the bugs in a doctors EHR software and the I would tell a  doctor, ” ask yourself  two questions:   1) Do you need more bugs and more complexity?   2) If you are in a ACO that will bet its medical outcomes to be enhanced by data exchange, would you tie your financial future into this for 3 years?  Remember capitation?  ACOs are really capitation with not just the very scary dangerous 1 year contracts that doctors dropped like a hot potato years ago  but a much longer 3 year contracts that could do more than burn your fingers!”   The lesson may be:  Don’t rush into anything congress has just blessed or someone is peddling for profit!  Let it prove itself first before you Literally bet your house on it!  We have enough people in bankruptcy in America today!

Is It Time For A Constitutional Convention?

Apparently there may be enough states which have voted for a Constitutional Convention to begin such a process!  The question is do you really want to put that much more power in the hands of  what many Americans call  paid for “scum” and greed driven people that call themselves congressmen?  Even if the Federal Congressmen were bound to the issues defined in the Conventional Call could we define such a platform at the State Level or is our country too diverse in its fragmented egocentricity to agree to some carefully chosen fundamentals?  There are a lot of questions to answer before rushing headlong into what may seem like opportunity and turn out to be otherwise.

consitutional convention

The federal laws describing this process are vague, according to Fox News; but,  it seems likely that the mechanism allowing 2/3 of the State’s Legislature’s  to call one would imply that states demanding the convention would decide the issues for Amendment and not the currently  corporate funded congress.  At least under the concept of States Rights, which was created to  protect the states from the abuse of a Federal Government.  At this point it seems a bit of conjecture to decide how such a convention’s empowerment would be structured, its responsibility to states and if we could agree on a platform.  It is however hard to deny that being able to restructure congress and reduce the usurpation of power by the executive and judicial,  to better serve the people equitably,  does not have its appeal.

All over the Internet you can find plans for a 28th amendment.  Many of these drafts have a lot in common. Perhaps before we call a Constitutional Convention, if this is possible for the states,  we need a clear platform of goals and a plan for demanding its execution.  And, who does not like the word “execution”  when thinking of congressmen?

When I first received an email asking me to share the concept and motivate others to join in a call for a Constitutional Convention, I thought this might be an exciting opportunity especially since it appears so many other states have already voted for it.

Then on second thought, the cartoon so well designed above,  gave me pause for reflection.  For a while I have wondered if the salvation of America could come from a military Coup D’eta?  But forget our military, they serve mindlessly and at the top are well “paid for” like congress.  Corporations rule, for now; however, even in a world so controlled as Roller Ball imagined,  in its creative visionary movie back in ’75, there is opportunity for people who believe in freedom.

If this is an opportunity to give power back to the people and end the rule of corporations in America, lets think this process through before taking action.

  1. Can States call a Constitutional Convention?
  2. Can we agree on a well defined platform to giver power back to the people and stop congressional corruption?
  3. Can we control the outcome so that congress serves us rather then severing us from empowerment?
  4. Can we organize to do this?  Considering the “Arab Spring,”  why not!

Ed Freeman, A Real Hero….. and there are more!

You look up to see a Huey coming in. But.. It doesn’t seem real because no MedEvac markings are on it.Captian Ed Freeman_vietnam_freemanEW
Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you. He’s not MedEvac so it’s not his job, but he heard the radio call and decided he’s flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway. Even after the MedEvacs were ordered not to come. He’s coming anyway. And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you on board.

Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety. And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!! Until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm.He took 29 of you and your buddies out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey. Medal of Honor Recipient, Captain Ed Freeman, United States Air Force, died last Wednesday at the age of 70, in Boise, Idaho May God Bless and Rest His Soul.

I bet you didn’t hear about this hero’s passing, but we’ve sure seen a whole bunch about The gov. shut down and Hillary running for president in 2016 (Whoopee!) and the bickering of congress over Health & OBAMA-CARE! BUT ZERO ABOUT THE PASSING OF  Medal of Honor Winner, Captain Ed Freeman Shame on the media !!!

Ed risked his life because he loved his countrymen, which means all of little people who he was fighting for and with.  He loved his buddies out on the battle field and his fellow Americans at home. After all, back then many of us believed we were there to stop communism and the domino effect. The new issue we are told to fight for today is Islamic terrorism and to be sure there is some reality to this.

But who is here to save us now?   Dwight Eisenhower warned us “beware the military industrial complex.”  What did he mean? There are lots of interpretations.  In my opinion, he was warning us that our country was about to get taken away from us not by foreigners but by those Americans (and their corporations) who were gathering too much power.  He was concerned that big corporations would control government and with that the military.  If this happened we, the little people, would be beaten and enslaved without we corporationsfiring a shot!

Look around you!  Our country is becoming a wasteland of struggling indebted slaves, like you!  You are one of those slaves who will pay debts to the Chinese until you die and leave this debt to your children.  Does this not tell you something?  Does it not tell you something when the corporate CEO’s of  the Transnational corporations, we have feared since the 60’s,  earn billions of dollars in “stock options” on top of the hundred million dollar salaries they earn?  At the same time you are concerned that you may need a welfare check to pay for food!   Does this not tell you something when the transnationals take away your jobs,  put you on welfare and then ask you to join the military and possibly die to fight for their right to cheap labor and other resources in a foreign country?  They want you or your children to die for their option to move their corporation to a foreign country.  Then they will use this opportunity to replace your job and your children’s by manufacturing there!

Remember the Feudal era where the king owned the land and the peasants and army died to keep him wealthy?  Well this is what we have become.  This is what they call an Oligarchy,  a system where all the power rests in the hands of a small number of vastly wealthy people,  the top 1% perhaps.  You (we) become their slaves by means of financial indebtedness and military servitude for causes that are not, for the most part, an attack on America.  I’m not denying 911,  but Iraq did not do it!

We need a hero!   It will not be X-men,  It will not be Superman,  It will not be anyone magically coming from the Matrix.  It can only come from one place, from our nation’s remaining Hero’s,  our military.   Those who have taken over our government,  those who have enslaved us,  those on “Wall Street”  who make a mockery of free enterprise each day and helped create our financial disaster are currently and comfortably empowered by the Military of the USA.  If they say shoot, you will be dead. But it doesn’t have to be that way. If you protest too loudly Washington how has the “new military”  called Homeland Security, why? Maybe they realize the US Military is not their trained dog!  Maybe they realize, commanding officers, like Eisenhower,  still exist.  Maybe they realize that the US Military is a proud arm of the people of America and not a servant to bankers, CEOs and corrupt Congressmen!   Yes the corrupt congressmen have Drones in the sky!  There can be no insurrection by the people.  So make no mistake as much as I love the movie V For Vendetta,  I am not advocating you march on Washington with your pea shooters.

But what if the military still has hero’s like Ed Freeman, men who refuse orders to not rescue Americans?   What if our military could actually refuse an order from the Oligarchy that has conquered America?  What if we refuse to fight in Iraq for oil so that American oil companies can have oil to sell to foreign nations (they don’t bring it home to lower oil prices…. did you notice?).   What if  they rounded up congress and put them in a Federal Penitentiary, for life,  and we actually elected new officials who had short terms in office and no lifetime career opportunities?  After all serving in congress was to be a service not a lifetime job!   What if we told the CEO’s to fight their own wars,  higher their own armies and die trying,  or move their corporations home and pay the price of treason for bribing congressmen?   What if we made it TREASON to bribe a congressman with a PAC or other political payoff as the CEO’s have been doing to enslave you? What if the bankers and Wall Street magic men that were kept alive after the 2008 “crash”  with billions of dollars of “gifts”  putting you into debt, were put in the same penitentiary?  What would it be like?

We might have an honest system that our forefathers dreamed of and hoped to have founded.  We would be free from enslavement by foreign debt created by the crooks we call congressmen.  We and our children would have opportunities and a future.   Are there Ed Freeman’s who can dwight-eisenhower-q-1040cs071312see when American’s are bleeding to death and need to be rescued?  Are there Ed Freeman’s who are high enough up on rank to do something unimaginable and take back America from the Tyrants who now own America?   I believe there are. The question is will they? I certainly will not tell them to do so.  I would never dream of it!  But what if they see the world as I do?  What if they see the world as most of us do? What if our military cared about each and every American as Ed Freeman cared about his buddies. Are we not all in this together?

Is there evidence for such a  call to action?  Perhaps I am just missing how well we are about to do economically.  Perhaps I am missing the recovery that the news-media is talking about?  After all I am just one small person like you.   But, there is no harm in your reading more and thinking more.   Here is another opinion worth seeing…… Click Here.

Graves opposes efforts to exempt Congress from Obamacare

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) issued the following

Graves opposes efforts to exempt Congress from Obamacare

statement after Politico reported that members of Congress are seeking to exempt themselves and congressional staff from Obama…

via Graves opposes efforts to exempt Congress from Obamacare.

It amazes me that Congress can pass a bill that they say is good for America but exempt themselves because it is not good enough for them. This is what helped send Marie Antoinette to the Guillotine.  Hmmmm……… makes me think.

If God does not exist, everything is permitted

Guess our national leaders didn’t expect this. On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.columbine 12 yrs ago

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness.. The following is a portion of the transcript:
On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful. They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:

“Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

“The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain’s heart.

“In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA – because I don’t believe that they are responsible for my daughter’s death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel’s murder I would be their strongest opponent.

“I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy-it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. “I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best. This was written way before I knew I would be speaking here today:

Your laws ignore our deepest needs, Your words are empty air. You’ve stripped away our heritage, You’ve outlawed simple prayer. Now gunshots fill our classrooms, And precious children die. You seek for answers everywhere, And ask the question “Why?” You regulate restrictive laws, Through legislative creed. And yet you fail to understand, That God is what we need!
“Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, soul, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and reek havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation’s history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine’s tragedy occurs – politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. “Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts. Political posturing and restrictive legislation are not the answers. The young people of our nation hold the key. There is a spiritual awakening taking place that will not be squelched! We do not need more religion. We do not need more gaudy television evangelists spewing out verbal religious garbage. We do not need more million dollar church buildings built while people with basic needs are being ignored. We do need a change of heart and a humble acknowledgment that this nation was founded on the principle of simple trust in God!

“As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes-He did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America, and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA – I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone! My daughter’s death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!”

———— This article is the legitimate text of the congressional meeting, as verified by multiple Internet searches.  Even if it were not, the truth of the message is inescapable.  People ask how can America regain its strength, its courage and its financial growth? How can the torch in the hand of the Statue Of Liberty again light the way for our nation and the world?  The answer is in the BookBe A Light Unto Nations!

Bernanke’s Fed VS Ron Paul

Is Ben Bernanke is the only serous policy maker in the District of Columbia? Richard Lehmann at Forbes thinks so.  He says, congress and the President are much too involved in re-election politics to address the mounting fiscal problems we face.

Lehmann says,  Bernanke is expanding monetary policy in an effort to get the nation’s finances at the federal, state and local levels back into balance with expected revenues, including trillions in unfunded entitlements and mandates.  He says,  it’s unlikely this can be accomplished through growth and cost cutting. So the Fed clams it has settled upon inflation as the solution.  Inflation is well known for its long term negative effects, but few ever speak of inflation’s short term benefits.

Lehmann says,  inflation robs from those with wealth to benefit those with massive debts, such as Uncle Sam and states like California, New York and Illinois. It steals from taxpayers through higher nominal taxes while depreciating the value of their financial assets.  It steals from pensioners and workers by devaluing the benefits promised and received. It also tends to drive appreciation in hard assets, such as real estate and gold.

The benefit of inflation now is that it should bolster the housing market and reduce the likelihood homeowners will walk away from their underwater properties. Inflation thus could be used as  an economic reset button. The Federal Reserve gets to effect policy without public discussion and without anyone having to face an election.

Lehmann says,  Bernanke can  promise stable rates for the next three years in pursuit of this effort and thereby show how Fed policy is really “quite transparent.”  When inflation finally reaches levels that can no longer be ignored, interest rates will be raised. But those raises will continually lag the rate of inflation on the radonale that we don’t want to hurt the economy.

Whether an inflationary policy by the Fed is right or wrong is a hard question to answer. In addition is this Bernake’s efforts or just what is going to happen because we cannot control our financial situation?

Lehmann says there are some possible inflation shelters:  real estate, commodities, stocks, adjustable-rate debt and precious metals.

While the long-term effects of inflation are unpleasant, there are maybe no  alternatives to our current situation.  It is a possible way of returning some balance and reality to our current economic confusion.  A free market can do that, though had we not borrowed so much money to forestall these events,  I think it would have long ago been resolved.

Lehmann says,  that as an instrument of policy inflation is a cowardly solution, but then, cowardice is what got us into this predicament in the first place.

I would call it cowardice and  greed.  Corporations who promised too much and would not deal with the unrealistic expectations of unions or wage expectations.  Corporations who live for the next quarter and not their long term viability.  Individuals who borrowed on their home mortgages for stupid luxuries and vacations,  blindly wanting to believe there was no end to their home value that was never going to deflate.   We are all to blame,  especially for our personal inaction when we noted NOW and THEN that congress  responds to bribes and not votes.

We have yet to dump the crooks and bums called congress and the White House.  The only real candidate for change is Ron Paul and people are still clinging to the status quo that they hope will avoid inflation.  This is True Cowardice.   Change is always scary but there is no joy in life without challenge…. just a slow death.
