Discovering The Touch – a short story

Janr’s mind, clinging to oblivion, vaguely began to sense that his whole body was caught in a taut muscular arch insisting upon continuation.  As the reluctant fog slightly cleared from his mind he universe-1044107_640realized he was stretching his lower back,  cramped from a night of being forced to sleep on the hard unfolded convertible couch. He tried ever so gently to initiate a meditative relaxation, to avoid consciousness, but it was futile. The soft rain of his intentions to sleep made the fertile soil of his mind yield a garden of sprouting questions as to why. Consciousness was about to bloom despite his best efforts. Even with years of meditation experience, its narcotic like balm could still be elusive.

He did not want to awaken, even to daydreams he might control, reality today was just too cold and empty! Childhood had been just around the corner and now he was 70 years old and remembering.  This particular remembering was just too painful and confusing.  What had happened to his mind years ago?  Were his emotional daydreams  of pre-adolescence really reborn childhood memories that he had long ago buried to help keep his sanity? He closed his eyes in one last attempt to avoid full consciousness but thoughts that had just broken soil were now tall plants growing and blossoming all around him. His memories of childhood were rapidly filling the landscape and converting the desert plain into what he now recalled looked like the dense Everglades back in the 60’s when he had moved to Miami, Florida. Consciousness was the sunlight illuminating their time-lapse like photographic growth.  There was nothing he could do about it.

strangler.fig.goole.for.ruesHe wondered, was this experience something that happened to your brain about this time in life,  when you were 70 or so years old?  Like it or not memories long buried with intention, no matter how strong that intention, would blossom into being or depending on their content crawl from their graves like strangling vines that could not rest in peace.

One such vine like memory engulfed a tree,  soon  its dendritic crawlers found other trees and quickly they networked to claim a forest. The vines were memories,  the reborn but familiar memories of alien thoughts, alien sensations, alien amusement that he sensed as a child. He was just in middle school when it began. He still recalled resenting it!  He mentally dug in the soil to unroot them but out came more vines painting pictures of the invasion that other young people did not appear to sense and he wondered why did they not perceive it? Were they blind or where they just lying about their telepathic skills for some reason?  Was this knowledge not allowed for children? Would they admit it when he was older?

The vines blossomed and their hypnotic scent took over Janr’s thoughts. Wondering ceased and he was young again. He was walking down the street called Calle Doce De Octubre in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico with the Sun just coming up on his left.  Mitsy was tugging excitedly at the 5 foot chain on her body harness as she sought the next blade of grass with a message from another dog. As he looked down the street to his right he could see 12 year old  Lecticia Delacruz swinging up and back on the porch swing chair in the front of her home.  As he watched her long brown curly hair float in the breeze of her movement, he wished he could be there with her.  She had been suddenly friendly to him when Janr came to call on Junior, her brother, to go out and fly kites.  She had in fact hung around them and tried to distract Janr from his kite flying.  She had snuck up and tickled him,  run by and pulled the kite string making it dance and even tossed water at him from her refilled soda bottle. It had made no sense until today.  Today as he watched her long legs stretch forward and backward to propel her chair he noted her skirt rise in the breeze and had a funny unfamiliar hunger creep through his body. For some reason he just wanted to be on the chair with her and gently touch those long muscular legs. He was embarrassed by these odd thoughts he had never contemplated before and would not share them; however his privacy would soon be invaded!

As images of his hand gently caressing the sensuous curved muscles of her thighs imagined themselves into being so did another uninvited energy.  He had sensed this intrusion before, it was like someone uninvited looking over your shoulder. He was awakening to the annoying sixth sense of being watched in a secretive fashion. He was too young to put it into adult words but he too had been the secret observer himself at times. Janr then recalled such an incident. When watching birds flying overhead, he had wished he could see through dove’s eyes as they soared above the palm trees and then it had happened, he did!  He recalled walking Mitsy as he was doing now doing and feeling her wet nose touch the blades of grass. Then the world would burst into a kaleidoscope of  dogs of many shapes and forms until Mitsy found the one who had left the message.  This thought lead to another reminding him of the night before. He recalled being half asleep under the mosquito netting hanging from his bedposts.  His body’s  muscles were heavy with oncoming sleep but his mind still alert. It was then he sensed something flittering through his mind with the gentle touch of a butterfly, it was looking at his day’s memories. With fascination, he watched it watching him and he was able to sense its thoughts.  It wondered what were the picture images of his days experiences and what sort of anatomical feature could allow such perception?  It wondered what his hands were like to use and what they would have sensed if they had touched the other beings body? Then it sensed Janr watching it and it was gone!

Janr told his mom the next morning about his dream. She said, it was a family thing to have odd and creative dreams. She said to just ignore them and they would go away. As Janr ate his Corn Flakes and slices of fresh cut mango, he recalled his mom playing with the Ouija WeeGee Board and somehow he knew it would be a long time if ever before the odd sensations of being watched went away.

Janr had buried these memories with exquisitely complex mental tools, developed over years of effort as he had searched for how to mentally survive this intrusion on his privacy.  He had succeeded until this morning.

With the reemergence of his childhood memories, creative concepts to explain the new reality he lived in burst into being as did imaginative solutions to his potential new dilemma. He chose not to worry, after all it did no good, and brushed these thoughts aside. Then he  recalled just a few years back lying on his chiropractor’s adjustment table. There was a hot pack on his lower back ButterFly.Onlyas he waited the ten minutes for her return. It was then he sensed the old familiar touch of a mental butterfly wing but this time it was different! This time the being asked for permission to view his memories.  It was an older man who loved the lady who was Janr’s friend and chiropractor. He sensed Janr’s compassion for his daughter’s current plight and it was this knowledge he was seeking. Janr was sure there was no danger and so he acquiesced, after all this was not an invasion it was a pleading request. The being looked through Janr’s memories of that afternoon with Anne, the chiropractor, and then smiled and thanked Janr, though he had no physical face to smile with.

When Anne returned to complete the treatment, Janr chose to risk sharing his experience with Anne. They had known each other for 20 years and she would know he was not crazy. In addition they were both part of an alternative healing group and were open to new ideas that might lead to healing.  After he told her about his psychic experience, Anne told Janr that her father who was also her bookkeeper for many years, had died nearly a year ago to that date.  He had died at a time when Anne’s associates had bankrupted her practice, her husband had left her alone to support three children and her home had burned down.  He had been concerned for her future and now perhaps he would rest in peace knowing of her rising from the ashes of disaster like the mythological Phoenix.

TheTouch.Butterly.Starburst.highRes.Radio.Image.pngJanr had slowly learned from these kinds of experiences. He now realized that disembodied travelers could not control a body, as learning to use muscle that was not yours was very complex. They also could not see through eyes that were not theirs.  All they could do was look at your memories and wonder, if you let them. He decided to stop fighting off the growing forest of old memories. Seventy years later, he did not feel invaded, he now had mastery of his mind and could invite or deny; he wondered what it would be like to again soar with the Eagles?

Ubuntu – A Computer Operating System / An Approach To World Peace!

What is Ubuntu?

Ubuntu is a free computer operating system and a philosophy of human kindness and cooperation.  It has produced a miracle in both areas that is worth understanding.   It has the potential to help establish world peace as a model for human cooperation.  Read this article and learn why!

Ubuntu as a Free Computer operating system (OS):   Only 40 paid programmers work for Canonical Ltd., which is responsible for coordinating thousands  of volunteer programmers and developers from around the world who create and maintain Ubuntu.  Ubuntu is an operating system, like windows, but many consider it far better.  Unlike Windows it is Free and most of the software you would ever need to install on it is Also Free!  For 99% of my work, I have not used windows in years; I use Ubuntu!  Just like your smartphone can download thousands of free apps for Ubuntu. Consider a few that I use that are totally free (but the equivalent for windows might cost thousands of dollars):

  • Audacity – a full music / sound recording editing studio on your desktop
  • GIMP – An image manipulation program that lets you create and modify pictures like Photoshop
  • Browsers: Chrome, Opera or FireFox and many others
  • Libreoffice – An office suite much like Microsoft Office but completely free
  • Rhythmbox – an excellent music organizer and player
  • BackUps –  With BackUps you can copy your current computer’s music, images, programs and settings and in Re-Create it on ANY NEW COMPUTER effortlessly!
  • Here are six things that Ubuntu does better than windows

How is it possible that thousands of brilliant programmers worldwide donate their time, skills and knowledge for free for you?

Ubuntu is sponsored by the UK-based company Canonical Ltd., owned by South African entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth. Canonical generates revenue by selling technical support and services related to Ubuntu, while the operating system itself is entirely free of charge. The Ubuntu project is entirely committed to the principles of free software development; people are encouraged to use free software, improve it, and pass it on (its code is available so anyone can modify and improve it and share it anew)!   In other words,  other than a small financially self sustaining leadership group, Canonical,  Ubuntu is a miracle of human cooperation by thousands of gifted people across the world who work as a team to improve the quality of human life for all of us!

Pictured here to the right of this text  is some of the team at a gathering for volunteer developers.

Ubuntu as a way of life — Archbishop Desmond Tutu offered a definition of Ubuntu in a 1999 book:  A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, based from a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.

Tutu further explained Ubuntu in 2008:

One of the sayings in our country is Ubuntu is the essence of being human. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can’t exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our interconnectedness. You can’t be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality – Ubuntu – you are known for your generosity. We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole World. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity. The philosophy of Ubuntu has influenced many world wide.  For example: The Peace Project,   The Peace Education Project and there is more to come.

Human Cooperation

As human beings, the Judeo-Christian bible reminds us that we struggle with two forces.  One is the physical desire to selfishly seek wealth and power that does not create value for society (such as might come from rebuilding a city or creating jobs) while the other side is the more spiritual side that recognizes the Creator’s plan for all of humanity to live in harmony and peace.   From the Judeo-Christian viewpoint we recognize Abraham as the near “perfect man” who taught us how to live in harmony by example of the way he lived.  Ubuntu like Abraham, does not deny the accumulation of wealth and power as long as it is used for the betterment of all.  Could we ever achieve that goal?  The stories of Ubuntu, as shared above, hint at this possibility.
It is always difficult to educate people while keeping them awake. Years of college has attuned me timelesssearchto identifying people who are sitting upright in chairs with open eyes and still in deep sleep.

It is far better to entertain, as Walt Disney said, with the hopes of educating then to educate with the hope of entertaining.  Much of my Sci-fi,  Sci-fantasy writings deal with questions of the potential for people living by the principles of Ubuntu. I explore, through adventure and imagination, what could happen if we learn to live in harmony (Ubuntu) and if not. I am constantly reminded as I write of the potential for human harmony as all my writing, research, social communication etc is done with the reliable results of the people who believe in Ubuntu, on an Ubuntu powered computer.

Brainless Slime Molds Learn & Teach!

tanyalattyDr Tanya Latty, PhD, insect ecology at the University of Calgary said: “I think we’re beginning to realize that brains are not prerequisites for complex and interesting behavior. The majority of life-forms on Earth are brainless, but we know very little about how this brainless majority are able to adapt their behavior in changing environments.

This discovery comes in a study published last week in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B. Scientists at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France taught some 2,000 slime molds to avoid nasty-tasting substances (nasty to slime molds) while searching for food — and found that the molds could then transmit this behavior to their compatriots simply by fusing with them. In essence, when the slime mold learned to cross a bridge to a petri dish full of food it liked they then put repellant chemicals on the bridge and the slime_mold_on_deadwood-google-reuse-permitslime mold learned  to ignore these repellents to seek food.  It did so by carefully testing the bridge with a fine tentacle of slime as a scouting party.  When the tentacle could cross, eat and return,  the whole blob knew it was safe to do the same and did so.  It did so faster and faster as it established the safety of the crossing.  Even more astounding was that the learned slime mold was able to teach this to new slime molds in came in physical contact with.

In my story character,  Janr Ssor’s,  sci-fi adventures, he discovers that his experience of the universe does not often depend upon the physical structures we commonly associate with our world.  He frequently discovers communications we do not experience but more and more are learning to recognize as in this article on slime molds or my essay, “Is Intelligence In Your Brain? Or Are Scientists Stupid?”, which finds this behaviour in almost equally brainless tiny insects.

Science is fascinating in its ongoing  attempts to discover new concepts of truth and reality. The longer I live the more convinced I am that there is less and less difference between scientific proof and theory.  This is not to say that we can not “prove” a theory by methods. smartphone-image-truth It is just puzzling what we are proving? Is it all of reality or just a convenient fragment that suits our needs much as the slime molds discover did its?  Sometimes I wonder, are we the image outside or inside the cell phone? Can we really know?

It would be illogical to deny the success of science when you see a spaceship, whose design is based on millions of years or learning scientific “proven rules”  successfully launch a satellite into orbit. On the other hand, it is one thing to have ultimate knowledge and another to grasp just enough to get through the day.  I believe we are at the latter point in our evolution but often sensing the light of a bigger tomorrow through the one thing science truly tries to teach well, “keep the window to learning open and know that we have no ultimate truths.”  Enjoy the trip, the destination is not our purpose.

Is Virtue A State Of War?

Virtue is a state of war, and to live in it we have always to do combat with ourselves.

— Jean-Jacques Rousseau

There is in  a discussion in Jewish Theology that God creates two types of beings. Each type is exemplified in the biblical histories  of   the brothers yin-and-yang-1947878_1280
Isaac and Ishmael  and Jacob and Esau.  The following is my view of this discussion.

In the first case,  the father, Abraham, had been an idol worshiper in the home of an Idol seller.  Though Abraham broke free of Idol worship it might be understandable that one of his children, who was born to a mother who was a princess from a land of idol worshipers, Haggar,  would have an evil inclination that he must deal with,  Ishmael.

In the second case, Esau is the son of two holy beings,  Isaac and Rebecca. You would not expect here to find a child with evil inclinations, reared in such a holy home.  Yet there must be an explanation for Esau.

A Jewish viewpoint is that each of the holy brothers represents the perfect man on Earth (Isaac and Jacob).  This perfection is inborn and it is expressed in lifestyle.

I believe that these people are seen throughout history  in different forms and they serve to inspire and motivate us to excellence.  However,  should the world be full of them, there would be no reason for it to exist as it would be perfection.  A world full of  good Angels would have  no to reason to exist or strive towards perfection,  it would be perfect. Would we even know this however?  If the world were full of perfection, would it fade from existence much like a the sense of warmth fades in a hot bath as we become aware of no other surrounding (change)?

It then appears that God creates children like Ishmael and Esau for another reason.  This reason is to give mankind a battle to fight,  a battle to fight within each man’s heart.  The evil inclination,  the temptation,  must be overcome and this is expressed in the physical world,  our reality.

A Jewish view of the world is that God created it but left it unfinished.  We were told to leave paradise and labor to create a world more perfect and more deserving of God’s presence.   We are in a way Co-Creators with God.

Could we eliminate the evil being and have a better world? Does one example of creation deserve greater merit?   The evil inclined who overcomes his evil or the perfect one who lives the example?  Both are needed apparently for the purpose of creation.  Both can be of value to society and the perfection of our world. In my exploration of reality, via Janr Ssor’s experiences, I frequently come back upon the mystical teaching that all existence is nothing but energy.  Energy is always a sine wave of positive and negative. With this in mind, it appears that both sides of creation will be with us throughout history.

Blind Mankind Is Beginning To See

If simple cells can talk, and you are about to learn how they do so, why do we have so much trouble amongst our varied nations?

In the Ted Talk below you will learn how some of the smallest creatures in our world, can communicate with each other, take population surveys and make decisions, as a group. Decisions such  as to whether it and its colleagues can successfully wage war upon a host!  In essence there is a social media for bacteria!

bacteria-talkWe THINK that we communicate yet our methods of communication are so poor that at times they cause intra-species war, death and destruction: Look at the Islamic – Judeo-Christian “warfare” of today!   Yet what we view as simpler,  less intelligent species may be doing far better in communication and cooperation with not just others of its species but with other species!

As you watch this video, keep in mind how single human beings and their families, when surveyed, can easily picture harmonious living with almost any culture or religion.  On the other hand, given a “leader” who can commandeer the media and claim “ultimate authority” for his message………. the same peaceful beings can be lead into the bloodiest of wars.  Is there something to be learned from single celled animals, who talk?  This video is about the future of medical treatment of disease by learning the language of bacteria…….. think outside the box with me! Think about communications! Think about blockchain….. and no “leaders” who control the media / communications!

My Version Of Transcendental Meditation

FREE TM LIKE LESSONS:

I searched all over the Internet and could not find a free lesson on TM (Transcendental Meditation). The fee to learn TM is thousands of dollars. I believe that for many people this expense is totally unnecessary. Here, for free, is my Technique in 2 steps: relaxation – meditation.
The Relaxation Response Technique:

Dr. Herbert Benson of Harvard Medical School, in studying Transcendental archways-google-labledforreuseMeditation, established that relaxation techniques had a very real effect on reducing stress and controlling the fight-or-flight response. Direct effects included deep relaxation, slowed heartbeat and breathing, reduced oxygen consumption and increased skin resistance. In other words a calmer, healthier state of mind and body. In this text, we use the relaxation response to get into the state for meditation. Once the body is relaxed TM is achieved by the simplest technique you can imagine! I have practiced this for over 40 years with great success. Try it for yourself.

Achieving Relaxation is something that you can do for yourself by following these simple steps:

  • Sit quietly and comfortably. Do not lie flat on a bed as you may fall asleep. Reclining is Okay, but not flat.
  • Close your eyes.
  • Start by mentally relaxing the muscles of your feet and work up your body relaxing muscles to the top of your head. How do you relax them? Simple, feel your muscles by tensing them and then by contrast feel them relax to as soft as you can make them. It gets better and faster with each days practice.
  • As you work your way up from your feet, pay special attention to relaxing the muscles of the shoulders
  • when you get to your mouth as you move up from your feet, let your mouth fall open gently as all the muscles relax in that area, much as you do in sleep. Leave it that way.
  • Deeply relax the muscles around the eyes and forehead, where we otherwise express mood and tension. This helps remove the tension of the days experiences.

When you have reached the crown of your head, focus your attention on your breathing.

Breathe in slowly, deeply and gently and then let your breath out slowly. Continue gentle full breathes and notice how you relax even deeper.

You have now achieved the Relaxation Response. It will get better and better, day by day, as you practice.

Meditation TM Style.
Now that you are relaxed, focus on your breathing again.
With every breath inwards, listen to the sound of the air filling your lungs.
With every breath outwards, SAY the mantra (a sound to be repeated) “OOMM” The sound of this mantra is like the sound of “oon” in Moon, but with the “m” sound and not the “n” sound. The sound should “s t r e t c h” out to the full time it takes to exhale. It then ceases as you inhale and again listen to the air coming into your lungs.
You may “say” the Oomm sound silently to yourself or out loud as you prefer. If you are meditating for needed rest, when awakening from sleep late at night, avoid saying your mantra out loud as it make provoke injury from an angry spouse!
Finally, do this breathing and sound technique and nothing more for about 20 minutes.
Explanation: The idea of TM is to still the “thinking” conscious mind. You do so by filling it with the mantra. You LINK the mantra to the sound of your breathing out, by practice. When you have done this, it is NO LONGER initiated by your thinking about generating the sound. In other words, with practice, you are not consciously making any effort to create the sound. You have conditioned yourself to do so in response to your breathing out.

The whole process is to listen to the air filling your lungs as you are breathing inwards and listen to the calming sound of the mantra as you exhale. Your mind is focused on your breathing and nothing else. Your mind is “stilled.” You are in a state of TM. It gets deeper with practice.
In essence you become the observer of your breathing and not the creator of the effort. At the higher level as you progress in your transcendence, you are outside your body looking in at your breathing.

Issues While Meditating: As you learn to meditate you will find that thoughts or pictures come into your mind. The goal of meditation is to still the mind and not think of these things. If you try to wipe them from your mind you fall into the trap of thinking. So how do you avoid thinking? Simple: Listen to your breathing in and the sound of
your mantra as you breath out. Your life forces are in rhythm with the universe, your heart and lungs perform reliably and rhythmically without your conscious effort. Your lungs are easier to pay attention to so you listen to your breathing. As you do so, the images or thoughts of the days events evaporate like the morning mist in the rising sun, effortlessly. This gets better and better as you practice TM.

You will find that as your practice TM, you will have a desire to awake from your session at about 20 minutes. This is the normal time to stop. If you practice this technique, when you cannot sleep, one of two things will happen. You may fall asleep or your may meditate. In either case you will be well rested.

Issues of mystical experience: It is well known that when meditating you forest-764924_1280-pixabaymay experience occasional but rare mystical visions. Some appear as colorful scenes, animal faces or even more exotic beings. The goal of meditation is not to experience mystical images but to gain rest and harmony with the positive energy of the universe. Ignore these experiences and pay attention to your breathing. What and why they happen is unimportant for the goals of TM.

The Heart – Do Words Give Creation Meaning?

jfkWhen you wake up and find the world just below discernibly different and it stays that way, how did this happen?

You almost feel as if you are in a dream about to awaken but you do not awake because you are awake!

Consider a more clearly shocking change that no one missed. This was the day the headlines read JFK Killed by Assassin!  This was not just below discernibly different, this was dramatic and indubitable.

This forever changed my world and that of my countrymen. Its story, 50 years later, is still news and never resolved.

Now imagine that a world changing event has occurred but at a less dramatically visible level; one just below discernibly different. One such event took place a day ago and it reminded me of the clear limits of human knowledge, and why as a doctor I do not trust doctors to be 100% on anything.

This event was an article written by a respected man of science, Dr Thomas Cowan, who fire-heart-961194_960_720-pixabaysaid simply that the human heart is not a pump that circulates  about 5 liters of blood throughout the body every minute, as we are taught!

How can this be? Every school child knows this and has been taught this for nearly 300 years!  In 1513 Leonardo Da Vinci dissected over 30 human corpses and discovered the circulatory system.  Later William Harvey, in 1616, discovered what he believed was proof that the heart pumps blood around the entire body. Men of science have accepted this for centuries!  Now there is a respectable different opinion.

The Problem With Viewing the Heart as a Pump:  (from Dr Joseph Mercola) Cardiologists and doctors in general are taught that the walls of the heart create pressure, which causes propulsion of the blood through the body. In essence, the heart is viewed as a pump — a pressure propulsion system caused by the muscular contraction of the ventricles.

However, your body actually contains an enormous amount of blood vessels. Most of the blood vessels in your heart and body are capillaries, which are very thin-walled, very narrow tubes.  If you were to spread these blood vessels out, they would cover three football fields. If you were to place the blood vessels end to end, in a series, they would encircle the Earth between one and three times.

The pump theory is then telling us that you have a 1 pound muscle, and it’s going to pump blood a distance equivalent to going around the Earth every single day for 70 years; 60 to 70 times a minute.  Is that believable? Not according to Dr Thomas Cowen in his book “Human Heart, Cosmic Heart: A Doctor’s Quest to Understand, Treat, and Prevent Cardiovascular Disease.”

What is the truth and is there any that we do not keep changing and refining?  Do our words describe creation or create its meaning?

Could Dr Cowan be wrong?  My Thoughts…..  If you take the heart’s arterial outflow and capillary_system_cert-google-labledfor-reusedisperse it to millions of capillaries the width of a blood cell the flow becomes very slow at that level as the ENERGY output is divided by millions of bifurcations.  If you now reverse that process and merge the capillaries into a larger return vein, the ENERGY is compounded back to its original level.   As for a single blood cell traveling around the Earth, the trip for each cell is done in PARALLEL not in series!  Just as a computer with multiple processors can process much faster than a single one,  so can the distance covered be much greater when run by a billion horses (or red blood cells).  I think that Dr Cowan’s reasoning appears to me fallacious.  I don’t doubt that he is on to something we have missed but Davinci and Harvey are not really wrong, entirely.  Maybe the world did shift on a just below discernibly different level

How To Find A Creative Solution To Your Problem, Men.

I have a mystical solution to your dilemma if you are searching for a creative solution. It comes from the Rosicrucians and the lips of many great men in history. It comes from the biographies of creative scientists and has evolved with humanity, according to John Gray.

In a nut shell it is: GO TAKE A WALK!

Now lets review the sagacity of my remark.  Many creative ideas are acknowledged to have come at a moment when a scientist, artist or writer sought to escape from a difficult task by going fishing or riding on a trolley car.

menrfrommarsIn “Men Are From Mars And Women Are From Venus“,  John Gray reminds us that men evolved learning to communicate while on the run hunting down animals or in battle. There is something about the motion of the body, for men, that liberates the mind from its jail of common thoughts.

The Rosicrucians teach that to solve a dilemma you must plant the concept, you are struggling with, clearly in your mind’s fertile ground.  You do so by first envisioning it in its most simple and vivid manner.  To do so, you think about it over and over until you understand it and all its ramifications fully.  Now make one clear, vivid, simple picture of the issue in your mind and then forget about it and go to sleep.

In each case we take advantage of the genius of our subconscious.  Perhaps it searches the Cosmic Consciousness or,  for the less mystically inclined,  your life’s learning.  In any case…. it usually works for me! 🙂

In either case, you are getting to best know your problem and then  distracting your galaxy-google-labled-forreuse-ngc_4414_nasa-medconscious mind from it. In one case you do so by walking, running or perhaps riding a bicycle.  In the other you put you conscious mind to sleep.  Where does the answer come from?  Where does creativity come from?

I have my answer……  I wonder what your is?

Explain It To Your Grandmother!

Science Fiction Is Fact,  Before It Can Be Proven.

— You may quote me on this.  Does this statement mean that anything you can conceive of,  can be and will be a reality?   Without spending the time it would take to explain this to my grandmother,  I will tell you that I believe the answer is yes!  In infinity, for example,  there are an unending number of “shades of you” on an unending number of worlds, much like our world, but different from the one you are now on.  Each world  just varies in “its nature” much as candles do in their light when you sit between two mirrors and watch the one candle next to you trail off into infinity in limitless iterations of  its fractal like images……..
As a hint to those of you who like science, are intrigued by this statement and like being swept away in hours of thought,  consider the implications of the fairly well accepted statement that our world is infinite. One of my favorite people,  Albert Einstein, said that,  “You do not really understand something until you can explain it to your grandmother.”   I believe this is true.  The only part that Einstein left out was that it could take hours to explain it to your grandmother. Not to mention the more difficult task of keeping her awake through the process.
A while back I gave up explaining things that took me hours to understand; well at least for the most part…. this compulsion often overcomes my minimal wisdom.   Over many years of college, I have listened to a few egotistic college professors babble on and on, from a position of their intellectual superiority, attempting to share their great knowledge with us commoners.  They either put me to sleep or I skipped their classes and read the text books in my dorm (a privilege supposedly allotted to us nerds who are out of high school).  I certainly do not want to be looking or even
smelling like them in my writing .  However,  I could not help but be attracted to the concepts that most of the great teachers spent their life focused on, learning for the joy of learning and the sea of thoughts it’s rains of concepts produced.
On the expostulating  side of things and as a better way of communicating complex thoughts oftenwalt_disney_1946-andmickey-mouse contradicting “common knowledge,” I chose to listen to the words of a far wiser man than these few long winded college professors,  Walt Disney.
Walt said,  “I would rather entertain someone  with the hopes of educating them then to educate them with the hopes of entertaining them.”   With great respect for a man who changed the world in a positive way and brightened all our lives;  I humbly strive to be walk in his shoes,  knowing I may never be able to fill them. I write Sci-Fi,  and hope that I entertain you and keep you up at night for hours of silent thought wondering, “could it be true?”   Why not start here with wondering could it be true? Every story I write is fiction (from the common point of view) but not from mine!  What about yours?  Are you willing to “expand your mind” without the drugs that were so alluring to those of us who grew up in the 60’s?

Different Styles Of Thought Or Consciousness At Birth And Beyond.

What if you were amongst the few who are born truly telepathic,  what would your birth experience be like? Would you survive after birth at all and if so for how long?  If you did survive what would you see without your eyes and how might that affect who you are and what you do with your remaining life time?  In essence, upon achieving consciousness, you would be one with the entire universe finding yourself part of something infinitely large and yet knowing that you were physically small by contrast. It is something that you might ponder if you are predisposed to the lengthy thought process that is  the particular disease of creative writers.  It is something I lie in bed thinking about at 5:00 am when I would like to be asleep blissfully as you are.

On the other hand what if you were not born telepathic,  what would your experience be like? What would it be like in a world of singular aloneness?  In your small space your mind would struggle  like a sponge to telelepahty-laeld-for-reuse-by-google-searchabsorb every bit of sensory data possible so you could become one with the terrifying vastness  around you. In so doing you would hope to not be frightened by your painful smallness in the now suddenly unaccountably large and unpredictable universe.

Do either of these contrapuntal scenarios exist?  It is my contention that they both exist and all the time, at each human parturition.  I believe that at each child’s genesis they are infinitely large, and connected cosmically with every other living thing, call it telepathy if you choose. At the same time they are focused on their physical smallness and struggling to incorporate all sensory data possible so that they can make sense of and take control of that which is their new physical environment.  It is truly terrifying even without the slap on the ass from the supposedly wise gynecologists. It is terrifying because, since they became sentient, many months ago, their environment has been consistently warm, cozy and full of love and nurture both mental and physical; but, now it has suddenly transformed with the psychological impact of a car crash!

Have you not noticed, as a parent, that children are “sponges” for knowledge?  Everything they see and hear becomes part of them, as if they were a movie studio’s camera.  They all appear to have total recall (and may infact have this trait).  On the other hand, not long after they become able to communicate, in some meaningful manner, we discover that they, at times, play with “imaginary” friends. They do this in our culture, at least until we become concerned.  They do this until we tell them that there is no such thing as imaginary friends and that it is time to “grow up” and stop this nonsense.

The sponge like behavior also becomes less and less, for many, as the experience a child possibly absorbs becomes more and more contaminated with doses of bitters and pain.  After all, all of existence is a sign wave. There is nothing that does not run like hot and cold that we can perceive, probably because that is all there is to our universe. Our nerves only respond to opposites, change!  After you splash into a totalrecall_2012_logowarm bathtub,  in a few minutes,  the initial sensation of heat transforms itself, in your perception, to a  constant temperature,  hardly noticeable. You need change to be conscious.  For the neonatal, the fun and security of becoming one with the universe by learning all it has to offer becomes far less joyful with negative experience.  Experiences such as those punctuated with the pain of an angry, frustrated parent’s hand slap or that caused by less friendly bacteria trying to eat us from the inside out after spoiled food is consumed.  So we don’t really want to remember this pain and we may learn to dissociate from it, since we cannot turn senses on or off at will.

As for being one with the universe by “telepathy,” if we should call it that, it too has its pain. Consider the disturbing confusion of  connecting with a being that has no eyes.  This being is called a Spheron.  This spherical being  connects with the universe by sonar like transmissions, much like a bat, but in the radio wave frequency range.  It senses its position too by the shifts in gravitational and magnetic fields coming from its planetary home, much like a bird or bees do.  It has almost no physical structure because it is mostly energy. It is spherical as that is the natural form that energy takes as it radiates (at least in this quadrant or our universe where the physics we try to comprehend is mostly prevalent).  This being does not interact with many of its like others, there is no value.  No, in fact its created purpose is like that of honey bees, it gathers information (like pollen) from that thought process and experiences of planets and shares that with other planets much as a bee shares pollen. If you thought that planets are not sentient, just for the moment imagine they might be; it will help with the concepts we are discussing.   The Spheron shares that “experience” by warping space and traveling across the universe instantaneously (at least this is how we would describe it).  From its perspective, there is no time, no space and no distance.  These are the delusions of physical beings like us.

A telepathic connection with this alien mind would be literally Earth shattering.  It could be far worse than a trip on LSD!  Those with acute telepathy, to maintain their sanity, would quickly withdraw to the comfort of their small, warm, cozy physical space.  So perhaps the genesis of that which we call people, derives from the balancing act of  sanity trying to maintain its integrity by figuring out how much total recall or total communication makes sense for the environment into which it, the newly created being, has been flower-1360468_960_720-pixbayunceremoniously dumped.

Out of every black sky filled with frightening lightning and torrentuous storms comes the birth of new plant life,  the flowers of a sunshine filled morning.  Perhaps in a similar manner so do we.
